I have been admiring and collecting vintage brooches since...forever. My sentimentality towards this quirky accessory started in childhood while volunteering at my grandmother's antique shop. How wonderful is it to discover something so small with so much personality?!
Today, this approachable accessory is like a unique signature that can still exist in spite of the expanding sea of fast fashion and wardrobe cloning. So on my mission to continually explore ways to create a personal fashion moment, here are a few visual ideas to chew on.

I have loved denim since I was in grade school. You know, that crunch under your knees, marks on your waist, accented with ripped knees from falling when "trying to look cool at a punk show when my high school crush's band played" jeans. (Now my full "era of geekdum" aka "my high school experience" is out of the bag.)
Over the last few months, I have started longing for my old, crusty Levi's that I had found in my beloved neighborhood thrift store. But what made them so great? What is the fit? Was it that crisp 100% cotton denim that only the outdoors and summer humidity could break in? Did my obsession start when I was forced to watch The Ousiders for an English class, or was it drilled into my brain by my early on-set obsession with everything Chloe Sevigny. I then realized the only thing left to do was to search for that perfect pair of vintage denim, and try to uncover what makes that blue, second skin so great.
Can't wait to share more about my vintage denim vision quest for the perfect pair of jeans. In the meantime, check out Pt.1, Levi's 501.

Binge on sequins. 0 calories, 100 grams of self-esteem.
Why not wear a full length sequin dress to the grocery store?

Before Sex and the City and Girls, there was The Golden Girls. Premiering on September 14th, 1985, these progressive female characters never shied away from discussing controversial issues amidst their witty and humorous dialog. Often propelling plot lines to incorporate topics of sexism, marriage equality, gender roles, divorce, ageism, and HIV, writers invited the audience to observe debates about real issues that lifted the vail of politeness during a culturally conservative time period. Not to mention, the idea of having a female-centered cast all over the age of fifty is still a rare find even by today's standards.
I remember watching re-runs of the show with my grandmother over summer breaks, and loving the way she would connect with the characters. Now as an adult, I truly understand and appreciate what made The Golden Girls so groundbreaking. In honor of the show's 30th anniversary, here a few ways to channel your inner Golden Girl.
1. Tropical prints paired with metallic accessories are EVERYTHING!
2. Dress like you are about to play shuffleboard while listening to Run DMC.
3. When in doubt, channel a streetwear garden party because high tops never quit.
4. Last but not least, never underestimate the power of a chain belt. ( to be continued...)
Stay golden.
